How Cruise Travel After Coronavirus Is Changing The Industry

The outbreak of COVID-19 has completely altered the way we travel as a society. Airlines, hotels, trains, and most importantly, cruise ships have taken a huge hit. Looking past the Coronavirus outbreak, it is likely that cruise travel will return with some changes. Cruise lines have always been a favorite form of traveler for vacationers, especially of those seeking to experience tropical, slow travel vacations. While it may not take the same exact form and capacity as previously, we can look forward to cruising again in the future. Read on to learn more about the cruise travel predictions in a post Coronavirus world.

Changing Ship Demographics

Following the outbreak of COVID-19, There will be a significant change in cruise ship demographics. Historically, with its extreme simplicity, leisure, and ease of travel cruise ships have been an incredibly popular choice amongst senior citizens. Unfortunately, senior citizens are one of the most susceptible to the infectious Coronavirus outbreak. With this being said, it is likely older demographics will hold off on cruise travel until the virus is completely eradicated. This may lead to the innovation of more family friendly vacations, or cruises themed for younger demographics. Again, depending on your perspective, this can either be an added bonus or consequence of cruise travel in a post COVID society.

Cruise Ship Capacity

Concerning the outbreak of the Coronavirus, we predict that you will see a significant change in the capacity of cruise ships. Traditionally, cruise ships have offered on a full capacity model. Major cruise lines offered the biggest, most modern, extensive fleets of ships. Following the outbreak of COVID-19, it is likely the size and capacity of cruise will change dramatically. It is possible that we will see significantly smaller ship designs. Of course, this will make it easier to disconnect on vacation.

Depending on your perspective, this could be considered a future benefit of cruise travel. With smaller ships, expect cruise travel to become more spacious, leisurely, and sustainable. In considering the implications of cruise travel on the post COVID world, consider the expected changes in cruise ship capacity.

Fluctuating Cruise Prices

Immediately following the outbreak of the Coronavirus, You will see a drastic impact in the cost of cruise travel. No matter what your perspective is, this one is a guaranteed bonus of cruise vacation, especially for value travelers. Cruises have historically been one of the most expensive ways to travel. Following COVID, it is likely that cruise prices will drop dramatically.

Cruise lines want your business back following the virus. Cruises will offer more incentives, packages, and lower prices in order to entice travelers to return. Some cruise lines may even begin traveling to new destinations at affordable prices in order to create new travel excitement around rising travel bubbles. Once the Coronavirus has been effectively dealt with in society, most likely we will see an impact on cruise costs.

Altered Cruise Amenities

Following the outbreak of the Coronavirus, expect cruise ship amenities will dramatically change. Cruise ships have constantly prided themselves on detailed amenities. From luxury dining and entertainment options, these amenities have become a staple of cruise travel. However, many of these amenities take place in a large, shared social space. It is already predicted that options like food buffets and waterparks may not return on cruise ships. Cities like Miami have COVID travel restrictions and regulations to follow.

Likely, these drastic changes will impact many additional dining and leisure options offered throughout different cruise lines. Looking past the outbreak of the Coronavirus, we will see cruise ships return with some form of limited amenities.

Limited Destinations

Analyzing conditions following the COVID-19 outbreak, most cruise ships will limit their destinations in some form. During the Coronavirus, health and hygiene standards have been held to an extremely high level. With cruise ships being a multinational business, some of the countries they visit may be restricted. Therefore, it is unlikely to see the same cruise itineraries to luxurious French Polynesian Spas in Tahaa, Bora Bora, Moorea, and the Society Islands.

Some researchers even believe that many cruise lines will cease operations to countries with poor healthcare systems or standards. Through these policies, ships can look to develop itineraries around safe, hygienic travel locations. Once the Coronavirus has been eradicated from modern society, cruise ships will return with some form of limited destinations.

Stricter Health Screenings

As we prepare for the post-Coronavirus travel world, we will see strict health screenings on cruise ships. Enhanced health and safety standards will obviously be a top priority as cruise ships return to business. One major disadvantage of cruise ship is that passengers are constantly getting on and off in new, potentially hazardous destinations. This factor greatly amplifies the chances for the virus to be caught and transmitted amongst staff or passengers. Therefore, as cruise ships prepare to resume operations, extremely strict, stringent health precautions will become the new norm. At a minimum, cruise ships will begin taking passenger temperatures and performing simple health screenings prior to boarding. However, we can also expect to see the expansion of onboard medical centers and improve air filtration units.

New Technologies For Safety

Further, the cruise travel industry is changing after the coronavirus pandemic by integrating new technologies. Many cruise ships are implementing sterilization robots. These robotic technologies allow the ships to raise the level of hygiene. In fact, the cruise industry is moving towards hospital-like sanitation standards. This would lead to a safer, healthier cruise travel after COVID-19. With the rise of automated cleaning systems, cruise tourism will surely gain confidence with travelers.

The Coronavirus outbreak has completely altered the future of cruise vacations. As the virus continues to be researched and analyzed, it is likely it will impact cruise travel as a whole. First, the outbreak of the virus will have a detrimental impact on the capacity that cruise ships generally take. Expect passenger demographics will also change from older individuals to younger travelers and families. At the same time, the virus will have a serious impact on the prices charged by cruise ships. Many researchers even predict the virus will have a significant impact on the amenities offered by cruise lines.

Furthermore, with the outbreak of COVID-19, there is a chance that it will have an additional impact on the destinations traveled to by popular cruise lines. Consider the points mentioned above to learn more about the cruise travel predictions in a post Coronavirus world.

Experiencing Positive Spiritual Vortexes In Sedona Arizona For Personal Healing

I wanted to see the quirky, New Age side of Sedona. Locals call it “a cathedral without walls.” I knew very little about what the fuss was all about vortexes, spirtual healing, and life balancing but was determined to try it all and make up my mind at the end of my adventures. Sedona is America’s New Age capital. Many of their three million tourists per year look for spiritual healing.

This town of 10,000 has a varied amount of experiences (some tours), classes and shops offering spiritual healing.  New Age Sedona’s most uplifting aspect is its dramatic setting amid rust-colored scenic views surrounding you at all times.

Sedona is two hours north of Phoenix and two hours south of the Grand Canyon. It is absolutely beautiful. It is surrounded by red rocks and located at the mouth of Oak Creek Canyon. This is a great town to chill and soak it all in. I recently wrote about slow travel vacations; Sedona is a place you certainly want to follow this mantra in. Some travelers make the mistake of driving through on the way to the Grand Canyon or Phoenix. I recommend a minimum of 2-3 nights here. If you avoid the summer months and holiday weeks you will find less crowds , the roads are not clogged up and finding much better value in your accommodations. Staying right outside the town it gets even less expensive.

The cool winter months (Nov– Feb) have temperature highs in the 50’s or 60’s, and lows in the 30’s. This time of year, it’s common to get overnight snowfalls, which make the red rock scenery gorgeous!

Experiencing New Age Sedona

Sedona is a travel must for the post covid traveler. There is a tremendous amount of interest surrounding Sedona vortex, spiritual healing exercises, and life balancing activities. No matter where your interest falls on the spectrum of spiritual healing, Sedona holds exciting, adventurous activities for any vacationer. Visiting New Age Sedona holds dozens of life-changing, breathtaking, and mysterious experiences you need to read about and explore. Before you book your trip, there are several ideas and locations to familiarize yourself with.

Vortexes In Sedona

Vortexes are one of the largest attractions in Sedona. These are simply defined as places where the Earth seems to be alive with energy. Some people have even defined vortexes as swirling centers of energy that arise from the Earth. After even a brief visit to a New Age Sedona vortex, visitors often feel happier, fresh, inspired, or recharged. There are numerous ways to go about this uplifting experience. Some of the well-known vortex sites include Bell Rock, Boynton Canyon, Airport Mesa, Chapel Trail, Cathedral Rock, and Courthouse Butte. Even better, vortexes are located in some of the most scenic spots within Sedona.

Different Types Of Vortexes

There are numerous different types of vortex within New Age Sedona. Before you take your trip, familiarize yourself with the different kinds of vortexes. Some vortex are said to produce energy that is more masculine, while others produce more feminine energy. Other vortexes generate energies that flow upwards, while the energy produced by others flows downward. Upflow vortexes are typically things like mountains, vistas, or spires. These deliver emotions like happiness and rejuvenation. Inflow vortexes that flow downwards are things like canyons or valleys. These types of energy deliver introspective feelings that cause reflection, and internal harmony. Many tourists compared these feelings as connecting them with past memories. Before you visit a vortex in New Age Sedona, be sure to familiarize yourself with the numerous different types.

The Airport Mesa Vortex produces energy said to be masculine, which effectively strengthens the internal spirit. These feelings are believed to allow you to take charge of your life and strengthen your personal self-confidence. Bell Rock is considered to be one of the stronger energy centers in the area. Visiting Bell Rock is said to help you increase your self-awareness, see new perspectives, and enhance your spirit For this reason, its energy is believed to encompass all faces of spiritual existence, masculine, feminine, and balanced. The vortex at Boynton Canyon is extremely popular with visitors since you can reach out and touch the scenery.

Sunset Vortex Hike with a Life Coach

It was a combination of a life coaching session with weightless moves that awakened my senses and helped me access Sedona’s vortex energy. I felt more in control, releasing some of my day-to-day built up stress or energy struggles. I was inspired to take these feelings back home with me. We participated in an active meditation among the beautiful nature. Next, we learned and identified yin and yang energy. Third, we performed energy-centering exercises to help us activate vortex energies. Rosane Gibson @ www.Rosanegibson.com

Stargazing

As you take in the awe and beauty New Age Sedona has to offer, be sure to spend some time stargazing. If you have made it to the south rim Grand Canyon viewpoints, stargazing is quite the experience. The night skies hozering over Sedona are breathtaking. With an unobstructed view, you can see incredible stars, planets, and constellations that are not visible elsewhere. To get a better view, there are several tour groups led by astronomers located right in Sedona. These agencies use state-of-the-art telescopes and technology to observe stupendous astrological sights. At the same time, there are several ‘Star Parties’ hosted at numerous State Parks and vortexes within the Sedona area.

Chakra Balancing

When you visit New Age Sedona, be sure to arrange a chakra balancing session. There are several benefits to chakra balancing, you can read more about them on http://www.rhythmichealingart.com/. Almost all reputable spas in Sedona offer chakra balancing on their menus. Chakra balancing sessions are often compared to massages. However, instead of kneading and massaging your muscles, therapists work on healing centers of energy within your body. There are seven chakras within your body: the root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye, and crown chakra. With a New Age Sedona balancing session, you can be sure to achieve healing across all seven layers. To achieve life balancing and vortex vibes on your visit to New Age Sedona, make certain to book a chakra balancing session.

Meditation in the Sedona Vortex Energy

We got to learn and practice the five essentials of meditation; especially the importance of mindfulness. This teaches you how to be fully present by constantly observing and being mindful of the things around you. At all times, your visit encourages you to internally take the resources with you. We went through a 20-30 minute guided meditation , attuning to the beautiful energy of Sedona surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery ever imaginable at the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park by Chimney Rock and Thunder Mountain. Michele Mattix @ www.sedonameditationexperiences.com

How To Experience The Power Of Slow Travel Vacations On Your Next Trip

Many modern vacationers are applying slow travel trends to their upcoming trips. When I travel, my personal preference is to dive into the local scene focusing more on experiences than counting how many sights to see. Why? Because when you try to fit in as many attractions and historical sites as possible, you are rushing through destinations instead of delving deep enough into a few to soak them in.

I like taking part in local rituals and routines and connecting with the place through events, food and culture. Spend more time doing less things.

I call this “slow travel.” It involves focusing on fewer places in depth, focusing on quality over quantity. There are several ways to embrace and enjoy the slow travel concept. It’s all about getting to know one place well! Taking the time to learn about and enjoy the slow travel concept can greatly boost your vacationing experience. No matter where your next destination may be, there is always something to gain from slow travel around the world.

The slow travel movement encourages vacationers to take the time to look around, observe and discover, be present in the moment free of outside thoughts. That’s an integral way to take pleasure from your travel(s).

Have your plan A attractions in mind but don’t purchase non-refundable tickets in advance. Beautiful day out? Skip the all day museum. Rainy or cold day? Great day for the museum or cultural attraction. Spent a few days in a row running around? Take a train and spend the next day in a small town in the countryside.

Don’t overbook your trip with “must-sees” or “must-do’s” unless they really excite you. Just because others may say, “you have to go here” or “you can’t miss this” doesn’t mean you should abide and miss out on potential gems they did not discover. Embrace slow travel trends by taking the time to enjoy the locations you are most interested in. In Paris, I gave up a full day in the Louvre to just enjoy cafe’s, window shopping and a stop in a much smaller, but spectacular Rodin Museum. The weather was just too nice and I was in Paris!

If you want to go visit a tourist attraction, do so because you want to; not because you read that it’s popular.

Choose Top Slow Travel Destinations

Before you embark on your journey, it is essential to research slow travel destinations. These types of trips allow you to relax and reconnect. Of course, there might be less going on during these vacations. However, that’s what they are popular for. For example, European countries are popular slow travel destinations. This is because there are plentiful vacation rentals, efficient public transportation systems, and historic attractions are relatively close together. This gives you more time to soak in the atmosphere of each site. Remember that slow travel is mindset, not a destination. However, research can elevate your experience to the next level.

Eliminate Complex Itineraries

One of the largest pitfalls when traveling to new places is following a strict, rigid itinerary. Developing an itinerary seems like the logical thing to do, especially on important family vacations. With a complex plan in place, you can effectively squeeze as much into your vacation as possible. Only one problem. Planning out every aspect of your day tends to cause a phenomenon known as traveler burnout. When you do not have the freedom to choose what to do, your trip can appear more like a chore than a vacation. Keep open times in order to try new things and be spontaneous. Ask locals, servers, or bartenders for recommendations on the best things to see in town. Often, the best sites are not the top ones listed on the top travel sites.

Avoid Whirlwind Tours

While visiting a destination or region, I suggest avoiding whirlwind tours because chances are, you’re rushing through it all. You’re missing out on the spontaneity; the enjoyable experience of taking your time to stop and smell the roses. Slow travel embraces enjoying yourself, relaxing, and making your trip as enjoyable as possible. Even worse, you will be throwing away valuable days getting from location 1 to location 2 to location 3 with luggage. Dealing with checkout times and check-in times can make for unexciting and  wasted days.

Take A Road Trip

Taking a spontaneous road trip is one of the best slow travel theories. A good road trip encourages you to slow down, take in the scenery, and enjoy the ride. Consider a relaxing road trip with no hard destination in mind.

Freely traveling your destination provides you the greatest understanding of what each location has to offer. Most popular tourist cities have local establishments that allow you to rent a daily car or scooter incredibly inexpensive if you are flying.

Take a slow-paced, enjoyable road trip as you implement slow travel strategies into your next trip.

Go To The Markets

I love interacting and observing the locals at markets. Using the slow travel concept, designate yourself time to browse and shop at local markets. Try the foods destinations are most known for, ask questions, and meet new people. Eat the street food, soak in the scene and wander aimlessly. People watch, have a picnic in the park, see a local band, attend a festival. See the local sports team.

Keep your options open- most cities have same day deep discounts on theaters and music events. Check out the local entertainment guides to see what is happening the week you are there. You might catch a spectacular show at a community theatre or see a local band. Both inexpensive entertainment options!

Leave Time To Relax

Following the best destination slow travel strategies, you increase the relaxation you experience throughout your trip. At the end of the day, relaxation is an integral part of your vacation. Following slow travel practices ensures this aspect does not go overlooked. By relaxing, you won’t be following a rigid, strict schedule, even while you’re having fun, it can be stressful to follow.

It’s all about having a mindset that whatever happens is just part of the experience; let those experiences also come to you.

Rather than doing a 10-day London, Paris and Amsterdam trip, for example, I suggest staying longer in two countries. It will give you the chance to see some more of England or France. Get out into the countryside and see some villages.

Take a trip up to Liverpool to soak in some Beatles heritage. Go to wineries in France. Following the art of slow travel, take the time to relax, and soak up what each destination has to offer.

Start Stumbling

Start stumbling across hidden gems and attractions as you embark on your slow travel journey. Travel should emphasize freedom. The ability to do and see whatever you choose. You eliminate that freedom if you stick to a rigid schedule. Stumble into places! Ask locals for their favorite restaurants. Don’t get me wrong, during your research you will see some things that get you very excited and you should plan on doing it. Don’t just pack it in all day, everyday because then you may miss out on some local surprises.

Becoming a Knowledgeable Resource of an Area – AKA Being A Local – Is One of My Favorite Parts of Travel

I enjoy staying with locals with AirBnb’s. I ride the public transportation routes to where I want to go each day. Next, I try to find out where the locals go eat. I like to go to their market(s) or grocery store.Staying and Spending your time Around Locals Is MUCH Less Expensive than booking accommodations in the tourist districts. This is a key value travel vs budget travel difference. Gift shops galore, overpriced restaurants and crowds are why I stay away from the tourist areas. I would rather travel to the congested area when seeing an attraction or museum that excites me. Transportation costs may get pricey in those areas…Staying elsewhere eliminates that $$ factor.

Create Memorable Experiences

Slow Travel has created some memorable memories for me on my trips. For example, instead of booking my day solid on a day we were going to an Edmonton Oilers game that evening (as we enjoy Sabres hockey games too), we walked around the downtown area right next to the arena and ran into the Senior VP of Communications for the Edmonton Oilers. We told him we came all the way from Florida to see the Oilers and he told us he would give us a behind the scenes Oilers experience before the game. He was elated that we came all the way from South Florida and he told us he got engaged to his wife in Florida. Then, he showed us an exclusive look at Wayne Gretzky memorabilia inside the arena and showed us the team’s executive offices. He even tried to get us to meet Wayne Gretzky but he was in a meeting at the time. None of this happens if we had a full day of plans in advance.

Walk The City

On another day we just wanted to walk the city and see some nice neighborhoods. We opened the local newspaper after breakfast to find that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was holding a town hall meeting in Edmonton the very next day. Very rare to see the person in charge of the country speak to its citizens in a relaxed setting! We had planned to go a hockey game that night but said this was once-in-a-lifetime and it was good we did not get our hockey tickets in advance. Speaking of hockey, check out our updated guide on seeing a Buffalo Sabres game in 2021. We always buy our tickets at the last minute so we can keep our options open for something better.

Keep Free Days

Following the slow travel methodology encourages to keep some days of your trip free and open. When you plan tours, sightseeing, and attractions back-to-back, you will find yourself rushing through your trip. Slow travel ensures you take in all each site has to offer. By having that day open up to attend this town hall meeting at the local university, we got there early to wait in line. We happened to be first on line! Additionally, you’ll be open to many more things to do in Winnipeg or wherever your slow travel destination is.

As we waited hours to get in I met a girl I eventually dated for a while and shared an amazing day there. Prime Minister Trudeau found out from one of his aides that we were first in line to see him and were the only Americans in the crowd of 1000 people. He came over to us afterwards and took pictures with us and was genuinely touched we chose him over the beloved Oilers that night. Hearing all of the concerns and issues of the citizens of Edmonton and the answers from Trudeau was the best experience a traveler can encounter in this way.

On my visit to Glendale, AZ I kept one day free to roam around. I heard about a local market and it was a beautiful day to do the Peoria Farmers Market. It was an unexpected prickly pear chai tea, vegan eggnog macarons, pitted dates that tasted like dessert, chocolate and fruit bowl with peanut butter and coconut kind of day. No need to run all day, just soak it all in.

Opt For Slower Forms Of Transportation

At the same time, think about opting for slower, more peaceful, quaint, and scenic forms of transportation. This trend has especially become popular throughout Canada and the United States. Here, tourists are increasingly opting for scenic, picturesque train travel itineraries compared to airplanes. Other slower forms of travel, such as by bicycle, walking, or river cruise have additionally become popular. In fact, you may even want to consider planning a roadtrip travel itinerary. Indeed, opt for slower forms of transportation to immerse yourself in true slow travel experiences.

Embrace Slow Travel

Slow travel enables you to be surprised and discover off the beaten path activities and not be as much of a tourist. Follow these tactics during all the best travel experiences in the US. You can come across more authentic neighborhoods, meet and create friendships and find where the best restaurants and shops are for locals. By staying longer in an area, it will feel more like a home than a vacation destination. You won’t be rushing activities nor living with a rigid schedule. Get to know a place.

Relax, have fun, and don’t rush things during your trip. Stop and sense all that is around you. Surprises have been some of my favorite parts of previous travels.

Don’t be concerned with “checking off all the boxes”. Your best memories will be the people you meet and things you did not plan. You can always go back one day!

Using Food Allergy And Dietary Translation Cards For Your Next Vacation

I have a life-threatening food allergy to dairy and all milk protein. Some people who share my situation will stay at home because of it. Fortunately, is incredibly easy to plan a trip around food allergies. I have not let my dairy allergy impede my adventures, and I’m here to tell you reasons you shouldn’t.

The Austrian Train Story

This is one of my scariest travel stories…just a forewarning. Upon boarding a 6.5 hour train ride from Zurich to Linz, I knew I needed to load up on protein so I wouldn’t be starving.

I went into a store at the train station and bought a salad with chicken with no dairy.

HOWEVER, in the most confusing day of my dairy-allergy filled life, I ate this “safe for me” salad on the train and quickly turned purple. My friends noticed this, and I said at first, “I’m fine, it’s just a salad.”

However, tears fell down my face (I wasn’t crying, believe me. Heading to Linz thrilled me). And my lips blew up. I looked like a Kardashian.

I went to the bathroom and instantly felt queasy. There was a 75% chance I reacted to this salad. The other 25% is unknown, or perhaps I reacted to the beer I drank the night prior? I felt great the morning of the train day.

I still don’t know what the reason was, but the preservatives that kept this salad fresh in a train station grocery store could’ve given me an anaphylactic allergic reaction. I was nervous on this day-long train ride where there was no medical staff.

I thought I would die. Even after taking my EpiPen injection, I needed to go to the ER immediately. The epinephrine only buys me a certain amount of hours.

To keep myself alive, I needed a friend to tell the conductor to stop the train which held thousands of commuters/travelers.

However, I told my friends to give me Benadryl and give the effects of the reaction another 15-20 minutes before I ruined this train journey for everyone else.

The Benadryl and the use of my Xopenex inhaler opened my lungs up. It made me drowsy, but feeling a heck of a lot better than I did before.

However, don’t be an idiot like me. Don’t take chances right before train or plane trips- bring something safe from home that you can snack on long journeys to prevent hunger.

Here are some concrete-solutions to the issue, easing both mine, and hopefully your travel worries if you have limitations like me.

SelectWisely Food Allergy Translation Cards

I use SelectWisely LLC’s food allergy translation cards when I travel to countries where I don’t speak the language. I hand them to my servers, restaurant managers/owners and to shop owners to facilitate my traveling experience. Most of the restaurants are extremely helpful and take care of whatever needed.

It may be one of my best purchases for my travels abroad. Not only are the cards clear, helpful and convenient, but the company provides an endless amount of great products for people with serious allergies and medical conditions.

SelectWisely has translation cards in over 20 different languages for:

  • Food Allergies
    • Nut, peanut, seafood/fish/shellfish, milk/dairy, egg, soy, sesame, wheat, seed, fruit and vegetables, others.
  • Drug Allergies
    • Penicillin, sulfa, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, iodine
  • Gluten-Free
  • Skin Contact Allergies
    • Latex, cats
  • Vegetarian and Special Diets
    • Vegetarian, vegan, lactose intolerance, low-salt, sugar-free
  • Health Emergencies
    • Travel emergency, ill child card, diabetes type 1 emergency, asthma
  • Diabetes
    • Type 1 emergency, Type 1 pharmacy, airport security for insulin pumps, Type 2 sugar-free
  • Asthma and Smoke Free
  • Animals and Insects
    • Bee and insects, cat allergy

Eat At Nicer Restaurants

The key also is to eat at the nicer, normally more expensive restaurants for their happy hour menu. That’s when you get to eat amazing food for less.

For those with food allergies, these restaurants have more attentive management who will work harder to ensure you they will make you a safe meal. Check out nice restaurants when eating the best food in North Carolina, New York, Boston, or anywhere else in the US.

Better ingredients, choices and caliber of the food and staff is one way to keep those traveling-with-a-food-allergy worries away.

If You Have A Peanut Allergy

Peanut allergies are among the most severe out there in part due to the reaction involved just by smelling it. The problem is that many in-flight snacks contain peanuts. You need to especially be careful if you are taking your kids on a family vacation.

Good news though. Some airlines no longer serve peanuts.

If I were you, I’d call the airline before your flight and ask:

  • To pre-board to wipe down the seat and area where you will sit to remove any peanut dust and residue.
  • For the flight attendants to make announcements prior to takeoff asking passengers to please not open peanut-containing snacks during the flight.

Some airlines won’t serve peanuts if they’re contacted a few days before the flight!

Prepare Yourself for Additional Security Screening If You Bring Food/Liquids –

If you travel with at least three ounces of liquids, such as almond or coconut milk, peanut butter or applesauce, it’s beneficial to have a doctor’s note to present to TSA agents, if it gets to that point.

You shouldn’t have any trouble getting an exception. The comfort of knowing you have safe food and drinks to bring on your trip is well worth the extra hassle to make it happen.

An easy decision.

Carry Multiple EpiPens

One injection lasts for 20 minutes. And have another with you just in case the first EpiPen doesn’t work. This way you do not have to worry while still having the best dining experiences.

Pack More Snacks Than You Think You’ll Need

It sounds obvious, but many people get caught off-guard by flight delays, lack of restaurants that accommodate special diets and other hiccups while traveling. Pack more diverse, safe snacks then you think you’ll need, or even full meals such as those from GoPicnic. For kids, pack extra special treats as something to look forward to during the travel day.

Helpful Food Allergy Apps

Apps such as Find Me Gluten Free, Happy Cow and Allergy Eats help for finding restaurants that accommodate food allergies. You can also contact restaurants in destinations that seem safe and that you’re interested in going to eat in before heading there.

Clearly Document Your Symptoms

One of the biggest errors amongst travelers with serious food allergies is the failure to document their symptoms. Quickly being able to spot an allergic reaction could be crucial to save your life. Ensure that you familiarize those you are traveling with to your conditions, initial symptoms, and preventive treatments.

Allergic reactions impacting skin often cause itchiness, redness, hives, bumps, or swelling. Reactions effecting the mouth often cause swelling of your lips, lounge, or palate.

Clearly document any potential symptoms relating to your condition in order to best inform those around you of when you may be experiencing a reaction.

Choosing Accommodations

Now, think about choosing strategic accommodations when traveling with food allergy and dietary restrictions. Constantly at restaurants and passing out your allergy card can be incredibly frustrating. Not to mention, it may still be concerning when eating out. The safest way to eat on vacation is to choose spacious accommodations where you can cook your own meals. Traditionally, this includes hotel suites and AirBnBs. If you are not familiar with these lodging options, check out our ultimate hotel travel guide. Surely, choosing accommodations is highly-important when traveling with food allergies and dietary restrictions.

Create A Chef Card

If you are traveling with food allergies, it is integral to carry a chef card. A chef card is simply a prepared card that informs kitchen staff of all your conditions and allergies. At the same time, it includes a request that all surfaces, utensils and dishes be free of any food traces.

If you are traveling to foreign countries, always carry a chef card in that country’s native language. This effectively alleviates any issues through translation or miscommunications. Consider using an easy service like SelectWisely LLC to create your allergy card online. They allow you to customize your card in a number of language to convey various health requests.

Organizations like the Food Allergy Research & Education institution additionally offer a number of card templates and international formatting options to help you design the best format.

Styling Considerations For Your Allergy Card

Before you travel with your allergy card, you need to follow several specific styling considerations. This is important whether you are eating American, Italian, or Native American travel food. Most importantly, you need to ensure that your allergy card is written clearly. Select a large, clear, and readable font size. Bold any information that you want the chef to pay careful attention to. You should additionally use flares of red to highlight extremely serious requests.

Finding Free City Tours With The Chicago Greeter Program Guided Service

Visiting Chicago is one of the best travel experiences in the US and there is a terrific, and FREE way to see and learn about it all.

It’s called the Chicago Greeter program.

The Chicago Greeter program is one of the few ways to see all the Windy City has to offer without paying steep prices for sightseeing tours or individual tour guides.

The program is an excellent way to get an in-depth, engaging, and personable tour based on your specific interests. With the program, you can experience historical site absolutely free all over Chicago. Read on to learn how Chicago Greeter delivers the ultimate city getaway.

What Is a Chicago Greeter?

Greeters are Chicago residents and volunteers dedicated to showing visitors their city. Don’t think of greeters as a tour guide. These touring programs are available in many major US cities. In fact, you may be able to find a greeter to help you experience the best things to do in Boston this year.

Rather, consider them more like a friend.

Experienced greeters can introduce you with the city’s most notable spots, hidden gems, and famous treasures. The places greeters may show you may not always be listed within travel guides or on top websites, but they are sure to create a long-lasting, memorable travel experience.

These value travel tours are one of my favorite things to do to kick off a trip. All you have to do is fill out the application and send it in at least two weeks before your requested date.
You also have to list the area of interest you have in seeing. Historical sites? An ethnic neighborhood? General walking tour?

Greeter tours specialize in a number of unique interests based on culture, flavor, history, or general entertainment. Most tours are offered in over a dozen languages to support international visitors.

Chicago Greeter Program Rules

Before you pack your bags and get your smartphone travel ready, you need to familiarize yourself with the program rules. The Greeter program is a great way for out-of-town visitors to see the city. Despite this, there are a few rules to determine your eligibility.

First off, the limit of people in your group is six or less. Tours cannot be scheduled on the day you arrive in Chicago because of potential travel delays.

Anybody going on the tour must be an out-of-town visitor. No locals.

Many tours additionally ask you to fill out the name of your lodging accommodations. Before you take the time to research and schedule a tour with a Greeter, make sure you are eligible under the rules in place.

Greeter Tours And Options

Over the years, greeters have sought to offer several unique tours and options. Most commonly, visitors choose between tours for special interests or tours for neighborhoods.

Interest tours range from distinct cultures, history, architecture, or cuisine tours. Neighborhood tours operate out of areas such as Downtown Chicago, Hyde Park, or Millennium Park.

Consider your personal interests so that you can use greeters to get the ideal tour of the city.

We chose an Architectural walking tour because the city is so well known for that and we would not know any history behind the buildings we are looking at.

If you appreciate architecture, Chicago is ground zero for beauty and historical significance. First, you sit down with your guide and come up with a game plan when you meet at the location they give you. You will go over timeframe and any other last minute requests by you. If you are a history lover, Chicago is one of the best places to go for Veterans Day.

Knowledgeable greeters can inform you of the story, history, and add perspective to all the scenery Chicago has to offer. The greeter brings your walking tour to life!

Wide Range Of Volunteers

Chicago Greeters provide you with a wide range of volunteers to guarantee a unique experience. They are a prime example of volunteer travel voluntourism in action.

With all greeters being volunteers, you can guarantee a tour truly fueled by passion and excitement. The greeter program provides the best volunteers to guarantee all travelers are able to receive their ideal tour and city vacation.

Our Chicago Greeters Program Review

In our case it ended up being a three hour  walking tour inside the Loop and hit all the masterpieces there. We must have walked 4-5 miles in total so be prepared with great walking shoes, especially on hard cement.

This is much different than a paid tour that you can sign up for. Throughout she kept asking us how we felt about what she was showing and if it was along the lines in what we wanted. If we wanted to shift gears into some other ideas other than architecture she was willing and able.

Our guide Christine’s knowledge of the city was so strong it came to life for us. Every time we passed any of these buildings throughout the rest of our trip there we knew exactly what we were looking at and the history behind it.

She even had access to the Chicago Architectural Museum and saved us a fortune and got us in for free and we looked around there for 30 minutes and also saw a fantastic 15 -minute movie they show there. This is one of the best cultural attractions we’ve been to.

Other Chicago Greeter Tours

Hate architecture and love food? Go to an ethnic neighborhood and try local specialties there. My advice- pick something you don’t know anything about.

Chances are, you will be uniquely surprised with what the city has to offer. My interest and enjoyment of the different timelines and styles of buildings downtown had grown tremendously in those short three hours. So fascinating to hear the stories behind the detail in each building.

Most tours signify historically significant or largely traffic areas. Tours of Hyde Park, for example, encompass the University of Chicago and the Museum of Science & Industry. However, you can stop at other potential locations, such as Barack Obama’s barber shop, within the same tour.

If you do not have any specific interests when you visit the city, pick something entirely new to you. You might end up finding something that interests you more than you thought.

Our Favorite Spots On A Chicago Greeter Tour

Here are some of our favorite spots you can see on a family vacation:

  • You can see local boy Frank-Lloyd Wright’s The Rookery, where he kept his office.

  • The Art Deco late 1920’s Carbide and Carbon and the Chicago Board of Trade.

  • Late 19th century Marquette and Monadnock Buildings.

  • The largest Tiffany ceiling in the U.S. 1893 Chicago Cultural Center

The Beaux Arts style of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Michigan Ave Bridge.

Chicago Greeter Tours Timing

Before you book your free Chicago Greeter tour, there are several considerations to take in regards to time. Free Chicago Greeter Tours are offered year round in the city, so you can still go for a tour even during winter weekends. A single guided tour is roughly two to four hours, depending on the type of tour you select. To ensure availability, it is essential to register for your Greeter tour at least ten days in advance of your scheduled date. Remember that the tours are incredibly popular, and availability is consistently changing due to high demand.

Where Else To See?

Before you book your free Chicago Greeter tour, consider what else you would like to see. Some of Chicago’s most well-known attractions include the Cloud Gate, Willis Tower, Lincoln Park Zoo, and Millennium Park. In addition, you should try and stop by the Field Museum, Navy Pier, and Art Institute of Chicago. If you want to spend more time outdoors, ask your greeter to stop by Grant Park, Lurie Garden, and the 606. Plus, the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse and Garfield Park Conservatory are additional great shops to stop by. If you enjoy city travel experiences, check out our guide on the best things to do in Boston. Indeed, consider what else to see on your tour with the Chicago Greeter program.

Volunteer To Be A Chicago Greeter

Are you from the Windy City yourself? The Chicago Greeter Program is always looking for friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic volunteers. There are no previous qualifications required. All you need is a passion for Chicago history, architecture, culture, and art. Specifically, you should be familiar with popular neighborhoods like Hyde Park, Bronzeville, Wicker Park, Bridgeport, and Pilsen. If you want to see some more fun attractions outside of Chi-Town, check out the best family vacations in the Midwest. Certainly, volunteer to be a Chicago Greeter to make the most of the guided tour program.

Of course, along the way you learn the streets and neighborhoods as she shows you all other points of interest to see on your own on other days.

No need to pay for tours, it doesn’t get much better than this.

How Family Vacations Leave A Long-Lasting Impact On Children’s Happiness

Planning and reflecting back on trips are two key elements involved in my family’s discussions. It has always made us closer. Planning trips is a positive subject, it involves not just the moment but the future to look forward to, and it leads to conversations for months and years about an exciting experience shared with one another.

You learn what each member of your family prioritizes in a trip, each person’s likes and dislikes. You ask questions, you listen, you collaborate, you learn, come up with ideas and suggestions. Compromise to balance the needs and wishes of everyone involved and everybody is happy. A child learns that each person has a right to look forward to something exciting to them. While places like the Las Vegas Strip are still not 100% family-vacation ready, there are dozens of fun, scenic, and amazing places to take your family.

Why Travel With Family?

Travel and traveling does so many amazing things for the soul; those of families and children alike. This also includes parent-child trips. In a world where there is a divorce rate of close to 50%, it is crucial that you find ways to build memories and “connect “with your child.

My greatest memories were the adventures I took with my parent or parents. My father knew I was obsessed with all sports growing up so he would lure me on “sports vacations“.

He would plan around the sporting events (that were mostly evening start times) with daytime trips to museums, historical attractions, local entertainment native to the location, and cuisine that was well known for that region.

We tried to avoid anything familiar and ended up always trying new things. Of course the sporting events happened but in reality they were only a small portion, time-wise, of the entire experience. I was very willing to do all of these other activities because of the carrot of the sporting events to come.

Inspire Your Child

You may have a child who loves playing a musical instrument. Plan a vacation around seeing a great orchestra. Your child may love science. Go to the best science museum in the country. Child interested in History? Go on a Civil War historical sites trip. Your child may be obsessed with video games? Go to Japan! This way everyone in the family is equally excited about the trip!

If you are a parent considering the value behind family vacations, leave it to me to show you why family vacations are important for children.

Strengthen Family Bonds

Firstly, family vacations are important because they strengthen family bonds. A lot of the time, parents and children do not realize that they are drifting apart from one another. During a getaway, kids can completely unplug and disconnect on vacation with family.

A long work day gets in the way of eating dinner with your kids. Most of the time, your children are too tired in the morning to talk before school. These situations happen more often than many parents realize and usually result in weaker relationships. By taking a vacation, you give your family time to rekindle the bonds that are stretching thin due to ordinary life.

When on vacation, take the time to do things out of your comfort zone. They are often the best activities for relationship building and are also usually fun for kids. My family and I always tried to avoid familiar activities, and it only brought us closer together. Strengthening bonds is just one of the many benefits of taking a family vacation.

Teaches The Value Of Money

Family vacations are also important because they teach children the value of money. You can open your kids’ eyes to the financial world by encouraging them to save up for upcoming trips. Help your child pick out a piggy bank and remind them to put their weekly allowances in it. You can even set a goal amount for them to try to reach by the time your trip date arrives.

Plus, you can even involve your children in your travel hacking process to make your trips or cruises more affordable. Show them how you are saving your own money by accumulating travel points and miles with your credit card bonuses. Travel hacking is one component of value travel. You can reduce the high costs of your trip by accumulating points and miles through credit card welcome bonuses and that can take car of your airfare and hotel dollars.

Family vacations are important because they can teach kids the value of money in a fun and exciting way.

Increases Social Awareness

Additionally, family camping vacations are important for your children because they increase social awareness. When kids see how other children are living in less-developed areas, they develop a sense of empathy and learn to value humanity.

While you may want to shield your kids from homeless people during your travels, it might benefit them to see the different way of living. It could teach your kids to feel grateful for the home they have, the food they eat and the clothes you put on their backs. Your kids could even want to help less fortunate people after your vacation.

An increase in social awareness is yet another reason why family vacation is important for children.

Reduces Stress Levels

Family vacations are good for children because they reduce stress levels as well. As a parent, you know how stressed you can get, but do you ever take the time to think about how stressed your kids are? They, too, deal with major stresses on a daily basis. Your trips do not have to be financially strenuous either. By following simple value travel guidelines, you can save money will still making lifelong memories.

By putting your family in a brand new environment where everyone is only thinking about fun activities, you can reduce both your children’s stress levels and your own. Fill your minds with exciting things to do and brand new sites to see.

In my experience, my best, most relaxed childhood memories are at places that I traveled to with my parents. Certainly, parents can see the value in taking family vacations to reduce stress levels.

Makes Learning Fun

On top of the above reasons why family vacations are important for children, they make learning fun. Are your kids struggling to stay focused in school? Are they uninterested in generally every topic you or their teachers try to cover? Take them on a vacation where learning is exciting!

You do not need to take them to museums or educational events when traveling either.

My incredible mother always supported me learning about myself, the world, and educating myself on the state of different societies through travel. Some of my finest memories with her have been reminiscing on trips we both went on.

My amazing father taught me how to plan a trip, find inexpensive transportation options, compare accommodations, and establish a budget.

Family vacations are important for children struggling to find interest in new subjects because they make learning new things fun.

Teach Kids To Be More Adaptive

Frequently scheduling family vacations, you can teach your kids to be more adaptive. Travel takes us out of our daily routines, home environment, and comfort zone. Through vacationing in unique, cultural destinations, you can teach your kids to deal with all sorts of unpredictable situations. Travel is often about going with the flow. Show your kids how you can manage and overcome challenging scenarios without loosing your cool. Even when scenarios like lost luggage, flight delays, or incorrect directions become incredibly frustrating you need to show your children how to overcome them.

Gain New Perspectives

Of course, going on frequent family vacations helps your children gain new perspectives. Vacationing is a great way to open up your kid’s world, promote exploring, and encourage hands-on experiences. Take your children on journeys where they can experience new cultures, languages, or traditions. In fact, you may even want to sample new cuisines or immerse yourselves in new cultures. This way, you can create future leaders and help your kids gain new points of view. If you are planning your next family getaway, check out these kid-friendly ideas for the best vacations in the Southwest. Definitely, gaining new perspectives is a core reason to take frequent family vacations with your children.

As someone who cherishes the memories I made with my parents on family vacations, I can honestly say that there is true value in planning trips with your kids. These trips are an excellent way to spend winter weekends or warm summers. By taking a vacation together, you can strengthen your family bonds.

At the same time, you can teach your children the value of money and increase their social awareness. Taking trips also reduces everyone’s stress levels, which can be hard to do in these days. Finally, vacations make learning fun for children. Keep these reasons in mind when considering the importance of family vacations for children (and their parents!)

8 Must-Visit Cultural Tourist Attractions You Need To Visit In Detroit Michigan

Are you planning a big trip to Detroit, Michigan, but don’t know where to go? Well, I’m here to help!

First and foremost, plan your transportation around the attractions. When arriving from the airport and if you are staying in downtown Detroit, take the 261 Eastbound bus for only $2 vs taxi/UBER for $40.

Although the city is not as touristy as the best Colorado adventures, the top things to do in Detroit are much more educational, historical and cultural. In my experience, you must visit the best Detroit cultural attractions to fully experience the city.

From the history that encompasses the Motor City to the stunning architecture that makes up the skyline, Detroit is full of cultural and historical sites.

If you are currently planning a trip to Michigan and want to visit this great city, I highly recommend that you stop at the following cultural highlights and landmarks.

“The Fist” in downtown Hart Plaza representing Joe Louis

The Detroit Institute Of Arts

One of the first places that I explored after arriving in Michigan was the Detroit Institute of Arts. There, you can discover how much man’s artistic abilities have changed over time.

You can walk through more than 100 galleries and see over 65,000 pieces of art. These works come from all over, including Africa, medieval Europe and, of course, America.

We found the displays fascinating as they compare not only the cultural differences between locations, but also the differences between time periods.

When going to the Detroit Institute of Arts, you can also catch the free guided tour (with admission) Tues-Sun at 1, Sat-Sun at 3 or Friday at 6. There are plenty of opportunities to learn about the history of art.

If you want to take a deep dive into art’s transformation, this might be one of the best attractions to see in Detroit.

Bert’s Warehouse Theatre

In terms of the best attractions to see in Detroit, Bert’s Warehouse Theatre is a must-visit. The theater is located in the Bert’s Market Place where you can also find the Motown Room and the Jazz Room.

When visiting, you can catch some local entertainment or possibly a Motown show like we did. If you are a fan of jazz, this is one of the best places to visit in the city. To maintain your value travel ambitions, there are several ways to get show tickets for less than $100.

However, you can also catch some blues shows or attend open mic night on the weekends. There are so many entertainment options waiting for you at Bert’s Warehouse Theatre or this Motown studio.

Motown Studios

That’s why I highly recommend making the trip to see this cultural attraction.

Also, here’s video of a Motown Go Go show:

The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant

Additionally, consider taking a trip to The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, AKA the “birthplace of the Model T”.

This is one of the best historical attractions in Detroit if you are a fan of automobiles. The building was the second automobile production center for the ever-popular Ford Motor Company.

Today, you can tour the factory and learn about the Model T’s history. The place is rather accommodating and can make arrangements for longer tours if you are interested in extensive options.

After you finish visiting the plant, stop at the Bucharest Grill for lunch. It is right down the street and has delicious Shawarma sandwich options for just $5.95.

You won’t regret this trip! The Ford Plant is one of the best attractions in Detroit and the lunch after is unbeatable. If you want to see more incredible museums, check out the top Santa Fe tours and museums.

The Guardian Building

Among the many cultural attractions in Detroit MI, the Guardian Building is one that stands out. If you enjoyed the historical sites in North Carolina, you will surely appreciate this building.

The building dates all the way back to 1928. Many travelers visit the attraction because it is a prime example of Art Deco architecture.

If you can appreciate stunning architecture when you see it, you will be left in absolute amazement. Right when you enter the lobby, you will see gorgeous, extravagant Pewabic and Rookwood tile.

From the outside, you can view the unbelievably beautiful and intricate building designs. If you stay long enough, you’ll even notice that the Guardian Building’s extraordinary stained-glass windows resemble a cathedral’s.

Take your camera along for this Detroit trip because you’ll want to remember how magnificent the attraction is.

Professional Sports

The professional sports attractions in Detroit also showcase the city’s culture. You can get a pretty good idea of how much the sports fans love their teams just by attending one game.

If you are a football fan, try to catch a Lions game at Ford Field. Here’s a glimpse of the action:

They play eight home games between September and December, so you have multiple opportunities to attend one of these fun and exciting games.

You can also see the Detroit Pistons play professional basketball at the Little Caesars Arena in Midtown. If you aren’t a basketball fan, maybe hockey is more up your alley. You can buy tickets to a Red Wings hockey game right at the same arena.

As a fan of the NFL, NBA and NHL, you can see all of the above teams play during the same trip. The Little Caesars Arena is walking distance from Ford Field, so you do not even need to pay for transportation to visit the best sports attractions or experience the great sports culture of Detroit. If you are a sports travel lover, check out our guide on the ultimate New Orleans Saints gameday experience at the Superdome.

Certainly, sports fans will not want to miss out on these exhilarating attractions. If you like to party beforehand, Detroit offers numerous sports for tailgating at games.

Detroit Historical Museum

When you visit Detroit Michigan, you need to pay a visit to the city historical museum. Detroit’s Historical Museum is an excellent historical center celebrating the past of the Motor City. Here, you can learn about how Detroit earned its nickname as the Motor City, as well as its reputation that carries through today. Learn about how residents used to live, the history of the city, and the classic Detroit way of life by visiting the city historical museum.

The Henry Ford

Of course, be sure to stop by The Henry Ford on your cultural visit to Detroit Michigan. The Henry Ford is a massive outdoor/indoor museum complex that features tons of classic Americana. Here, visitors can see the world-famous Kennedy Limousine, Rosa Parks Bus, and Abraham Lincoln Chair. Outside, be sure to explore Greenfield Village, where you will see an amazing recreation of Thomas Edison’s Laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Also, you can see the Wright Cycle Co., where the Wright Brothers first begun experimenting with aviation. One of the best cultural sites to visit when you’re there is the Detroit Institute of Arts. I also suggest stopping by the Bert’s Warehouse Theatre for some fun entertainment. The Ford Piquette Avenue Plant is a great if you love cars.

Moreover, consider stopping by the Art Deco beauties to admire their brilliant, jaw-dropping architecture. Don’t forget to stop at professional sports attractions to see NFL, NHL and NBA games too.

When the time comes to really leave, don’t forget to take the 261 Westbound bus instead of a taxi! You’ll want to keep what’s left of your money for your next big adventure. You will especially need it if you want to eat at the best restaurants in New Orleans.
